Julie Sparkman will be the featured speaker at a coffee hosted by the women’s ministry of Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m. All women in the community are invited to hear this popular speaker and much sought after counselor from Birmingham, Ala.

Sparkman has worked as a Christian counselor in various capacities for over 30 years. She counsels individuals and couples with a variety of problems including those who are facing issues of depression, verbal and physical abuse, infidelity, parenting through adulthood, postpartum adjustment, and finding and maintaining one’s identity through the various seasons of life.

In 2012 she launched “idol Addiction – facing your false gods and restoring your sanity with the Gospel you thought you knew,” a nine week series being presented live and through video in churches throughout the country.

As Julie explains, “We may not bow to golden statues, but we’re all idolaters. An idol is anything we turn to to make life work apart from God. Approval, family and career are among the host of false gods we look to for our security and satisfaction. Rather than freeing us, these idols drive us to anxiety, control, anger and countless other sins that erode our connection with God and one another.”

Carriage Lane will offer two separate sessions of the idol Addiction video series to the community this fall: Monday mornings from 9:30-11:30 a.m. starting Sept. 16, and Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting Sept. 18. Each week participants will view a 45-55 minute lesson from Sparkman followed by a time of reflection and interaction in a small group setting. Childcare will be available for both sessions at a cost of $10 per family for the entire series.

To RSVP for the Sept. 7 coffee or to register for the nine week series, call the church office at 770-631-4618. The cost to register for the series is $20.There will be no childcare for the Sept. 7 event.

Carriage Lane Presbyterian is at 101 Carriage Lane just off Ga. Hwy. 54 in Peachtree City.
