Two long-time Fayetteville councilmen are calling it quits, with qualifying deadline for three posts on the Fayetteville City Council less than a week away.
Post 3 Councilman Walt White announced last week that he will not be seeking re-election and Councilman Larry Dell said he will not be seeking re-election for his Post 4 seat.
However, incumbent Councilman Paul Oddo will be seeking re-election for his Post 5 seat.
White’s decision not to run again will effectively bring to a conclusion nearly a quarter-century serving on the City Council.
Dell’s announcement last week that he will not run for his Post 4 seat could mean that he, too, will bring his quarter-century of council service to an end unless he decides to run for another post.
Oddo in recent weeks said he would be seeking re-election for his Post 5 seat.
Qualifying for the three seats up for election in the November election will be held Aug. 26-28.
To date there is one challenger for White’s Post 3 seat in 53-year-old aviation safety inspector Scott Stacy, who previously announced that he will challenge White in November.
Dell’s Post 4 seat will also see a challenger from Chattahoochee Hills Administrator Jim Williams, 75, who announced his intention to run in early August.
Prior to the past two years in Chattahoochee Hills, Williams served as the Fairburn City Administrator for eight years and worked in Peachtree City government for 22 years, 10 of which was as director of development.
Anyone wishing to qualify should register at Fayetteville City Hall from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 26-28. The qualifying fee is $240.
City Hall is located at 240 South Glynn Street.
The registration deadline to vote in the Nov. 5 election is Oct. 7.
