Meredith Griggs “Max” Clarke, 77, of Peachtree City, Ga., passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2013. He was born in Atlanta, Ga. on April 20, 1936. He was a graduate of Sylvan Hills High School (1954) and Georgia Institute of Technology (1959). After graduation from Georgia Tech, he began his career at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga. and then moved to NASA at Huntsville, Ala. in October 1963. He ended his career with his retirement from the FAA after 27 years of service in 1991.
He enjoyed fishing, a good game of golf, Braves baseball, playing Bridge, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Elizabeth Clarke of Lithia Springs, Ga.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Clarke of Peachtree City, Ga.; daughter Patti Clarke Coryell (Mark) of Villa Rica, Ga.; son David Clarke (Karen) of Griffin, Ga.; daughter Suzanne Clarke Hatlee (Herb) of Griffin, Ga.; mother of his children Patricia Clarke of Griffin, Ga.; brother Marshall Clarke (Virginia) of Greenville, S.C.; brother Marion Clarke (Carol) of Shreveport, La.; 8 grandchildren – Jimmy, Nichole, Andrea, Nicholas, Herbie, Mark, Katie and Kelsey; 6 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s In The Pines Episcopal Church, 316 Peachtree Parkway North, Peachtree City, Ga. 30269. A reception will follow the service.
