The Peachtree City Council has a feather-light agenda on tap for its Aug. 1 meeting.
The biggest decision council faces involves a variance to allow an increase in parking spaces for a vacant restaurant that is being redeveloped into a bank at the Kedron Village Shopping Center.
The developer, who is demolishing the former Pizza Hut/KFC building to make room for a 3,400 sq. ft. Chase Bank, is asking for 30 parking spaces, whereas city ordinance only allows for 14 spaces based on the size of the building and its use.
The catch is that with its mortgage business, Chase Bank has a number of customers and staff who have to stay on site for several hours for lengthy real estate matters, bank representatives have said previously.
The 1.39-acre site is located at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Georgian Park. The concept plan includes a freestanding drive through that will not be attached to the building.
Council will conduct a public hearing on the matter before rendering a decision on the variance.
A public hearing is also slated for a variance at 123 Crown Court in the Cardiff Park subdivision, which is seeking to replace a deck and build a roof over the new deck which would extend 10 feet into the rear building setback.
In other business, council will not have to consider a proposed rezoning for two hotel buildings on less than three acres behind the Wisdom Point shopping center. The developer, Kassandas Properties, has withdrawn that application following last week’s recommendation from the Peachtree City Planning Commission that the rezoning be denied.
Commissioners at the time expressed problems with the need for two hotel buildings on the same site under a limited use commercial zoning. If the hotel were to be developed under its current general commercial zoning, it would be restricted to constructing just one hotel building, city officials said.
The commission voted unanimously to deny the request at its special called meeting July 22.
