The time for the annual Newnan July 4 parade and fireworks show is just around the corner. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. in downtown Newnan.
The July 4 parade is always a spectacle of patriotic expression and this year will be no exception. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park off Jackson Street and move through downtown on LaGrange Street. The parade will continue along LaGrange Street to Newnan High School.
The parade is one of the city’s premier annual events. The downtown area is usually packed with people and crowds customarily line LaGrange Street along the parade course all the way to Newnan High School.
Entertainment and the annual fireworks display at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium following the parade will be presented by the Newnan Rotary Club. The fireworks display will begin at the conclusion of the parade.
Drake Stadium gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Families can enjoy music by Doug Kee and Friends and Newnan Chapel United Methodist Men’s Chorus. A presentation of colors will be performed by the Honor Guard. Emcees for night will be Georgia House of Representative Lynn Smith and Cathy Wright Director University of West Georgia- Newnan.
There will be activities perfect for children from bounce houses to slides. Don’t forget the concessions. Food will include hot dogs, chips, popcorn and ice-cold drinks. The night will sure to delight people of all ages. The event is free to the public.
“This is one of the biggest events in Newnan and Coweta County and it is the biggest event hosted by the Rotary Club,” said Newnan Rotary President Gerald Kemp.
Parking on the campus is limited, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early or park in downtown Newnan for the parade and walk to the high school stadium for ease of parking and traffic flow.
