The first round of Peachtree City’s budget, as proposed by city staff, will be discussed by the City Council in a workshop meeting Monday night.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall June 17, with the possibility of a second workshop on Tuesday, June 18 at an undetermined time.
The budget details were not available by press time Tuesday. One of the biggest matters to be addressed is the funding of street and cart path repair and repaving, as that $2 million has been removed from the city’s general fund budget for the past six years, thanks to revenues from the countywide transportation sales tax. Those funds have now been exhausted and the city is facing a need to find additional funding to keep up with street and cart path repaving.
The city is repaving a large portion of Crosstown Road this summer and the project will spend the city’s remaining funds from the sales tax. The city also had to spend an additional $305,000 from the city reserves for the project, which will extend from Ga. Highway 74 to Robinson Road.
Crosstown is the city’s worst-rated road in terms of quality of the pavement and also is a key part of the city’s transportation network because it connects Hwy. 74 south to Braelinn Village and Peachtree Parkway.
