We often say that one of the best things about Fayette County is the quality of life. Well, it’s about to get even better.

The Southern Conservation Trust is developing The Ridge, a new 308-acre multi-use public park right in the heart of Fayette County.

Centrally located at the end of Burch Road off Ga. Highway 54, The Ridge will include a dock for fishing and launching small watercraft on Whitewater Creek, an educational pavilion, hiking and biking trails, restrooms and three parking lots.

In addition to the size of the nature area and amenities, a first for Fayette County will be a 7.5-mile water trail. A boat ramp will be installed to allow access to the creek trail that will end at Starr’s Mill.

While the SCT is actively seeking grants, we welcome all types of involvement whether it be participating in events such as the June 1 National Trails Day or the June 21 Farm to Table Dinner and Auction.

There are many opportunities for businesses and individuals such as sponsorships, donating supplies, or helping to build a boardwalk. Parents may be interested in enrolling their children in our new summer nature camp. Details can be found at www.sctlandtrust.org.

As the Southern Conservation Trust celebrates two decades of service in our 18-county service area, we are proud to call Fayette County our home.

Over the summer we will be revisiting our strategic plan which focuses on preserving land and making it accessible for passive recreation.

Perhaps you have ideas about how the Trust can further enhance our community. If so, please let us know. In the meantime, get to know your local nature areas by visiting our website or participating in one or more of our upcoming events.
