Coweta County is reminding motorists in east Coweta that a portion of Lower Fayetteville Road and Luther Bailey Road will be closed for bridge work beginning Nov. 26.
County communications director Patricia Palmer said Coweta County will assist Senoia in completing emergency repairs on a bridge on Luther Bailey Road. The county will provide labor and equipment. Work to replace the bridge with culverts has already begun, said Palmer.
The road will be closed at the bridge beginning Nov. 26. Weather permitting, the majority of the work will be completed in two weeks and the road can be opened, Palmer said. Even after the road is re-opened, there will still be work to complete and there will be some times with only one lane open.
The detour route will be Norton Road to Rock House Road to Ga. Highway 16, Palmer added.
The other bridge project in east Coweta, and one that will involve an estimated 9-month road closure will begin on Lower Fayetteville Road near Fischer Road, also on Nov. 26. The detour route will be Bob Smith Road to Stewart Road to Ga. Highway 54 to Fischer Road.
The Ga. Dept. of Transportation will close the bridge on Lower Fayetteville Road over Shoal Creek for a complete bridge replacement. This bridge will require much more significant work and the work will require the road to be closed there for approximately nine months, said Palmer.
“The need for this replacement is great as this bridge serves a very busy road and it one of the lowest rated bridges in the county. The replacement bridge will be about 100 feet longer than the current bridge and the grade of the new bridge will be raised about 3.5 feet.
