The National Weather Service in Peachtree City is inviting elementary and middle school students to its free “Student Day” program Saturday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The program will give students a chance to see first-hand how math and science are used every day to compile weather information provided to millions of people across the country each day.

The event wil be hosted at the NWS office on Falcon Drive in Peachtree City, adjacent to Falcon Field Airport.

NWS officials will cover a number of weather topics including forecasts and warnings, aviation meteorology, thunderstorm hazards, severe weather preparedness, weather balloons, weather radio and weather instruments.

Other weather-related topics to be covered include fire safety, astronomy, media broadcasting and building a ready kit that can be used for any emergency situation.
At each information station, students will have the chance to participate and ask questions of presenters, officials have said.

In addition to the NWS office, other agencies participating in the event include the Southeast River Forecast Center, the Air Route Traffic Control Center’s Weather Service Unit, Fernbank, the Fayette County Emergency Management office and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
