Sandy Creek hosted East Coweta in their first home game of the season and, despite the score, most would agree it could have gone better.

“It was about as ugly as it could get,” Sandy Creek head coach Chip Walker said. “We’re happy with the win, but we have a lot of things to work on and many of them were pointed out tonight.”

Delvin Weems started the scoring for the Patriots (3-0) with a seven yard touchdown run in the first quarter. In the second quarter it appeared that East Coweta was going to score twice but an interception from Shaquille Wiggins and a goal line stand kept the Indians off the board. The Patriots’ Brian Miller had an interception with just ver a minute and a half left in the first half and the offense capitalized with quarterback Cole Garvin and Demare Kitt connecting on a 17 yard touchdown pass. The Patriots entered the locker room up 14-0 at the half and lucky the score wasn’t tied or worse.

On the first play of the second half Eric Swinney rushed for the first of his two touchdowns, 80 yards, to put Sandy Creek up 21-0. Swinney started the fourth quarter with a one yard touchdown run and Mitch McMillin capped the scoring for the Patriots later in the fourth with a 32 yard field goal.

East Coweta got a touchdown in the fourth quarter from Wyatt Potter who had a great catch on a pass from Bryce Gemmel. Nigel Gay recorded an interception for East Coweta.

“We just made way too many mistakes and there were way too many penalties,” Walker said after the game. “We’ll be working on everything between now and our next game.”

The Patriots are off next week and will host Fayette County (0-2) on Sept. 28.
