February 16, 1916 – September 4, 2012

Josephine (Jo) Price died on September 4, 2012 at the age of 96. As a true servant of her Lord, even in her final days, Jo played piano for several services and for the nursing floor residents of Canterbury Court in Atlanta where she lived for the past six years. Jo was an inspiration to her family, friends, and neighbors because of her servant heart and her cheerful countenance.

Jo was born on Feb. 16, 1916, the oldest of five children, to Jesse Coogler Johnston and Mark Graham Johnston in Atlanta, Ga. In 1950, Jo and her late husband Robert K. (Bob) Price moved from Atlanta to Fayette County, where Bob established his business and they both became very involved in church and community. It was said, “Jo Price brought culture to Fayette County” as she played piano for many weddings, funerals, church services, directed choirs at the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, and directed many community and school choruses. In addition, Jo taught piano lessons for almost 30 years, touching the lives of hundreds of Fayette County youth. Jo and Bob Price left a lasting legacy in Fayette County through their involvement in the formation of the Fayette Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Clubs of Fayette County, the McIntosh Arts Council which established the Fred Brown Amphitheater, and the Endowment Committee for the Cultural Arts.

Josephine Price was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert K. (Bob) Price, and her four brothers, Mark, Jr., Edwin, Clayton, and J. Gordon Johnston.

She is survived by sons, Robert K. (Roby) Price, Jr. (Andrea), and Gordon J. Price (Laurie); grandchildren, Kelly Massey (Steve), Richard Price, Karen Price, James Wiggins (Suzanne); great granddaughters, Megan Manning and Joni Wiggins; great-great granddaughter Storey Manning; and nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Canterbury Court for the love and excellent care she received in her final years. A graveside service was held at Westview Cemetery on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Fayette Presbyterian Church, 791 Forest Ave., Fayetteville, Ga. 30214, or to Canterbury Court, 3750 Peachtree Rd. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30319.
