Expect to see some road work soon on Parkway North just east of Ashley Park in Newnan. The roadway that leads to what will be the main entrance to the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America hospital will get rehab work and sidewalks as part of a joint venture between Newnan and Coweta County.
Parkway North intersects with Ga. Highway 34 at Amlajack Boulevard a short distance from Interstate 85. Commissioners on May 15 voted unanimously to approve the county’s portion of the $550,137 project that will total $304,476.
County Director of Development and Engineering Wayne Kennedy said the roadway is in need of repair and will be utilized as the roadway access to the CTCA hospital at Ashley Park.
Baldwin Paving was awarded the low bid at $550,170. The three other bids received ranged from $743,000 to $1.14 million.
Kennedy said the project will consist of the reconstruction of approximately 618 feet in unincorporated Coweta County and 1,262 feet within the Newnan city limits.
Kennedy said the county will be responsible for contract administration of the project and Newnan will reimburse the county for their portion of the work. The project will consist of adding new sidewalks and resurfacing within the City’s portion of the project.
The county’s portion will require moving the outside curb and gutter inward approximately 12 feet and narrowing the median to allow for shoulders along the roadway. The current roadway was constructed such that the outside curb is on the right-of-way line. This project will allow for drainage improvement and sidewalks which will connect the area to the new cancer hospital, Kennedy said.
The county’s project cost is being funded by the current one-cent sales tax (SPLOST) program.
The CTCA hospital is expected to open in mid-August.
