Fayette County deputies caught criminal suspects New Year’s week in the act of committing a burglary and thefts of air conditioning units, arresting four persons in two separate incidents.

Deputies on New Year’s Day arrested Jarrod Mathew Callahan, 18, of Fayetteville, and charged him with burglary and carrying a concealed weapon.

Callahan broke into a residence on Wilmington Lane with the intent of stealing items from inside the home, according to Investigator Brent Rowan. The home is located north of Fayetteville off Ga. Highway 314.

A residential alarm notified the Fayette County 911 Center to dispatch a Fayette County deputy to the residence. When the deputy arrived, Callahan was still inside the home attempting to remove items from inside, Rowan said.

Deputies were able to take Callahan into custody without any injuries.

In a separate incident, deputies arrested two men and a woman in connection with a theft that occurred on Dec. 29, 2011 on Shenandoah Trace in north Fayette County.

Fayette County deputies and investigators have arrested James Oliver Feltman III, 37, of Jonesboro, and James Rechy, 39, of Fayetteville, charging them both with criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree, theft by taking and obstructing a law enforcement officer, Rowan said.

Feltman was additionally charged with fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.

Investigators also arrested Eowyn Rose Ausmus, 36, of Jonesboro, charging her with hindering the apprehension of a criminal, Rowan said.

This case involves Feltman and Rechy taking two air-conditioning units from a vacant residence on Shenandoah Trace without authority from the owner. A Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy observed Feltman and Rechy leaving the location in a pickup truck loaded with the two stolen air-conditioners.

The suspects drove off with the deputy in pursuit. The deputy continued to follow the suspects’ truck until it came to a stop two blocks from where the pursuit began inside the Shenandoah Estates subdivision just south of Ga. Highway 138 in north Fayette County.

Both Feltman and Rechy abandoned the truck and took off on foot, Rowan said. Rechy was taken into custody by Fayette County deputies a short time later when he was seen walking on Hwy. 138 just inside Clayton County.

Feltman was taken into custody on Dec. 30, 2011 at his Jonesboro home. Investigators arrested Ausmus on Jan. 3, 2012 when she hindered investigators in their attempts to identify and arrest Feltman during the course of this investigation, Rowan said.
