It was just over a year ago that the Senoia Downtown Development Authority purchased the old police department buildings on Main Street. The idea behind purchasing the city property was to renovate the buildings so that one could serve as the welcome center and the other could be leased to a business.
DDA agreed last September to purchase the circa 1912 buildings for $27,000 and the City Council accepted the offer on a 4-1 vote. Per the agreement, DDA said it would be responsible for the rehab work that would be needed.
Now one year later, the renovations are essentially complete and both buildings are nearly set to open.
The designer for the projects was Gary Baumgardner of Home Design Dynamics.
The smaller building totaling approximately 840 square feet will house the city’s welcome center. The larger building, at approximately 1,400 square feet, will be leased to Sugar Daddy’s Swimwear, said DDA Chairman Suzanne Helfman.
Helfman said Sugar Daddy’s Swimwear is expected to open around Halloween while the welcome center will likely open in November.
“We’re thrilled with Gary’s work. He’s done an outstanding job,” Helfman said last week. “And we’re thrilled to have a tenant even before the project is completed.”
New DDA member Scott Tigchelaar agreed, adding that “the economy is good in Senoia.”
