Peachtree City Bond Rating, Council Workshop & Meeting, Leash Law and Path Rules reminder, and more . . .

Good News! Peachtree City Keeps Outstanding Credit Rating
This week, the Mayor & City Council will consider an agreement and bonds to refinance existing City debt and to undertake several capital projects, in conjunction with the Peachtree City Public Facilities Authority. As part of the bond issuance, Peachtree City’s bond rating was reevaluated to determine the interest rate for the bonds. Peachtree City received an AAA rating from Standard & Poor’s and an Aa1 rating from Moody’s, the same ratings as the City received in 2008, prior to the downturn in the national economy.

City Council Workshop Tuesday on Private Streets, 2012 Legislature Issues
The Mayor and City Council of Peachtree City will hold a workshop on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 6:30 p.m., in Council Chambers to discuss private streets and the impacts of the City taking over private streets (what it would mean to residents through HOAs) and to discuss issues for the 2012 State Legislative Session. The public is welcome.

City Council Meets Thursday
Council’s regular meeting on Thursday, October 6, is at 7:00 p.m. Immediately prior to the meeting (at 6:45 p.m.), the Peachtree City Public Facilities Authority will meet. The public is welcome at both meetings. The Council agenda includes the street name change request from Cooper Circle to SANY Blvd; bond resolutions for refinancing and capital improvements; a roof bid for Public Works/Fire Station 82; a new Planning Intern and Human Resources/Public Information administrative assistant; and changes to the ordinance and bylaws for the Recreation & Special Events Advisory Board. For the complete agenda and packet, visit www.peachtree-city.org/councilagenda. Visit www.peachtree-city.org/video to watch the meeting live or on demand.

Path Rules Reminder – Leashes Required
Peachtree City requires all pets on public property (paths, streets, parks, right-of-way, and greenbelts) to be on a leash. The only two exceptions to this law are the fenced area of the Peachtree City Dog Park on McIntosh Trail, and at Drake Field. Dogs may be taken off leash at Drake Field if they have been trained and respond to voice command. Dogs may also go in Lake Peachtree from Drake Field.

Pet Reminder – Please Clean Up After Pets, Don’t Block Path
Dog owners are reminded to clean up after their pets when walking along Peachtree City’s paths. Also, please do not let dogs wander into private yards from the paths. Dog owners who use retractable leashes should also stay on the same side of the path as the dog and prevent the leash from extending across the path – a runner, cyclist, or golf cart hitting the “invisible” extended leash can injure other path users, the dog owner, and the dog.

Traffic Alert – Road Work @ The Avenue this Tuesday & Wednesday
The Avenue Peachtree City will be performing asphalt repairs on City Circle on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 4-5. The road will be CLOSED at 6:00 a.m. on October 4 and will reopen approximately 3:00 p.m. on October 5. There will be no through traffic during this time. The entrance on Hwy 74 will be open for customers going to the stores from Coldwater Creek to Atlanta Bread Company (including Sleep Number, Moe’s Southwestern Grill, Lens Crafters, One Magnolia Lane, and Marble Slab). Customers are encouraged to use the Hwy 54 entrance if accessing the other section of the center. Customers will still be able to access the center from the Clover Reach side but will have to make a left turn in front or at the rear of Rack Room Shoes to get into shopping center. Signs will be posted at the entrances (by Coldwater Creek, Rite Aid, and Sleep Inn) to assist drivers in maneuvering around the center.

Genealogy Workshop Part of Family History Month at the Library
A panel of genealogists and researchers will present, “We’re Relatives—Genealogy and Writing,” on October 18, 7:00 p.m., at the Peachtree City Library. The panel includes moderator Lee Eltzroth, an author, professional archivist, genealogists Nathan Mathews, Susan Sloan, and Maureen Keillor, as well as Peachtree City Library Reference Supervisor, Dale Tysor. The program is open to the public.
