You just might have missed it, but Fayette County experienced an aftershock wave stemming from Tuesday afternoon’s earthquake in Virginia.

The county administrative building shook and “kind of rocked” said Lt. Donnie Davis of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

The aftershock came from the 5.9 magnitude quake

whose epicenter was 39 miles northwest of Richmond, Va. shortly after 1:51 p.m., officials said.

The county building was not damaged and no damage reports were being called in by county residents, Davis said. But the aftershock surely caught some by surprise at the very least.

Peachtree City Hall fielded one call from a resident about the aftershock, but the occurrence has largely gone unnoticed by many.

Lt. Davis said since the earthquake was so shallow, the aftershock traveled long distances quickly.
