A proposal by The Heritage School in northeast Coweta County to add a 5,400 square-foot classroom building was approved by the Coweta County Commission at the May 17 meeting.

County Zoning Administrator Angela White told commissioners the school had requested an amendment to its conditional use permit to expand the campus with an additional 5,400 square-foot building for use as high school classrooms. The request is in addition to the previous 6,000 square-foot addition approved in 2007, White added.

The K-12 private school is situated on 60.87 acres on U.S, Highway 29 northeast of Newnan on property zoned RC (Rural Conservation).

The school currently serves more than 400 students, according its website. White said the addition would provide the capability to serve approximately 500 students.

The Heritage School was established in 1970 and currently serves students from Coweta, Fayette and surrounding counties.
