What makes a good leader?
Each is unique. Some offer direction, others inspire, still others impact lives without saying a word.
Chick-Fil-A’s Leadercast, hosted locally May 6 by the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, defines leaders as “Voices of Change” operating as purveyors of either influence, hope, service, purpose or innovation.
So while there is no “one” answer to “what makes a good leader,” nearly 150 local business leaders have shown their interest in the question by making reservations to attend the event at Harps Crossing Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
Leadercast is a one-day leadership training event broadcast LIVE from Atlanta to hundreds of sites throughout the nation, including the one here in Fayetteville. Eleven internationally-respected experts, representing one of the “voices,” will be speaking to an audience of thousands assembled in groups across the nation for this event.
Seth Godin, entrepreneur, marketing expert and best-selling author of 12 books including “Linchpin,” and John Maxwell, leadership expert and best-selling author of “The 12 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership,” are in the line-up of speakers. The two represent voices of influence, people whom others look to for guidance, those who are recognized for their ability to make significant impact on individuals and organizations.
Mountain climber and West Point professor Alison Levin along with Erin Gruwell, founder and president of the Freedom Writers Foundation, are voices of hope who will be heard at this event. People look to voices of hope for inspiration and a better way.
Dave Ramsey, personal money-management expert, Dan Cathy, president and COO of Chick-fil-A, and Muhtar Kent, chairman of the Board and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, will bring voices of service to the broadcast. These voices give of their time and talent and are often behind the scenes. Though their work gains notice and motivates others to follow, they desire little recognition for their efforts.
Suzy Welch, best-selling author, TV commentator and noted business journalist, along with Mack Brown, head coach of the Texas Longhorns, are Leadercast voices of purpose. Leaders with this skill are not easily distracted from their intended path, but remains focused on the big picture, leading others steadily and confidently toward the envisioned destination.
The voice of innovation, the one that is never quite satisfied with the status quo, is represented by Frans Johansson, best-selling author of “The Medici Effect,” and Sir Ken Robinson, best-selling author and leader in the development of creativity, innovation and human resources.
Fayette Chamber President Virginia Gibbs is expecting the local event to grow to 300 or more attendees from communities across Atlanta’s south side. In addition to the Chamber, the event is sponsored by First Steps Training and Development (FSTD), The Citizen Newspapers, TCIS, J93, Minuteman Press of Peachtree City, the Rotary Club of Peachtree City, Brenau University and BB&T.
