Peachtree City United Methodist Church is sponsoring an interactive event call “Journey To The Tomb” Saturday, April 16, that will allow people to witness a recreation of the final days of Jesus.

Set in a wooded area behind the church, the event will include interactive stations that depict the actions of Jesus on Palm Sunday, in the Garden of Gethsemane, during the Last Supper, during His crucifixion and His resurrection.

For instance at the station depicting the Last Supper, visitors will learn about the last meal between Jesus and His disciples, the betrayal and crucifixion. They also will be invited to take communion.

Actors will be dressed in clothes similar to those worn at that time and will portray witnesses to Jesus’ being taken to the cross. They will describe what they saw and heard.

At each station kids will receive eggs filled with various items such as palm leaves.

“This event is for families to come and experience the true meaning of Easter, that Jesus died to save us,” said Katie Hewes, director of children’s ministry at PTCUMC. The event culminates with an Easter celebration at the church’s Scout Lodge.

There also will be a Jerusalem marketplace where people can sample foods and buy crafts and spices.

Free tours will begin every 15 minutes from 3 to 5 p.m. Guests are encouraged to register in advance but walk-ups are welcome.
