A warrant round-up March 28 initiated by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and in conjunction with the Fayetteville Police Department, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service, resulted in the arrest of nearly three dozen people with outstanding warrants in six counties in metro Atlanta.
“That’s 38 with outstanding warrants who were supposed to be in jail and who are now in jail,” said Fayette County Sheriff Wayne Hannah.
Hannah said the four participating agencies compiled approximately 300 outstanding warrants that included the last known addresses in Clayton, DeKalb, Coweta, Fulton, Spalding and Henry counties.
Meeting on March 28 at the sheriff’s office in Fayetteville for a briefing and assignments were 29 officers and personnel from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, four from Fayetteville Police, four SWAT medics from Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services, seven from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and 10 officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, said Hannah.
The officers were at the various locations around metro Atlanta at approximately 6 p.m. and concluded the warrant roundup at 2 a.m. on March 29.
Though difficult for that number of officers to knock on 300 doors during an eight-hour period, Hannah said the locating and arrest of so many people on outstanding warrants amounted to a good day’s work.
Those arrests on outstanding warrants included six for misdemeanor contempt of court, four misdemeanor bench warrants, two felony bench warrants, 10 misdemeanor probation violations, four felony probation violations, four on other felony charges and four on other misdemeanor charges, Hannah said, adding that officers also found that four others on the list were already incarcerated.
