Jobless rate in Coweta, Newnan held steady in December

Unemployment figures in Coweta County and Newnan held steady in December, with Coweta showing a jobless rate of 9.6 percent and Newnan coming in at 11.5 percent.

Jobless figures from the Ga. Dept. of Labor show the unemployment rate for Coweta County at 9.6 percent again in December, having held steady from November. The December figure translates into 5,662 people out of work in a workforce of 58,925.

Coweta’s unemployment rate in December 2009 was 10.5 percent.

Unemployment figures for Newnan also held steady in December at 11.5 percent. The city’s jobless rate one year ago stood at 12.1 percent.

The December figure for Newnan represents 1,535 people out of work in a workforce of 13,327.

The jobless rate across the 10-county Three Rivers Regional Commission area fell slightly in December to 11.1 percent, down from the 11.2 percent rate in November. The December number equates to 24,726 people out of work in a workforce of 221,768.

The December figure represents a substantial decline in unemployment from the 11.7 percent rate a year ago.

Statewide, Georgia’s unemployment held steady in December at 10.2 percent. That figure showed nearly 479,000 people out of work in a workforce of 4.67 million.

Meantime, unemployment across the United States, fell slightly in December to a rate of 9.1 percent, representing nearly 14 million people out of work. The jobless rate in November was 9.3 percent. Those rates were not seasonally adjusted.

Seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for the U.S. in December were tallied at 9.4 percent, down from 9.8 percent in November.

Gallup in announcing the December unemployment rate showed 9.3 percent of people unemployed and another 9.2 percent underemployed. Underemployment signifies those people working part-time but wanting full-time employment.
