The Coweta County Commission last week agreed to accept a grant designed to provide counseling and psychological services to youthful offenders. The $7,500 grant was awarded by the Council of Juvenile Judges of Georgia.
The grant authorized by the council’s Resource Development Committee specifies that the award amount is to be used for services pertaining to the Juvenile Offenders Program. The breakdown of the $7,500 award stipulated that $2,500 be allocated for group counseling, $3,500 for pre-dispositional psychological evaluation and $1,500 for psychological evaluations during the probationary period.
The grant period runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2011.
Council of Juvenile Judges of Georgia Executive Director Eric John said that grants were received by all 142 counties that applied for funding, adding that the maximum grant award was $7,500. Funding areas on the application targeted areas that included community service, education/tutorial assistance, counseling, psychological evaluations, drug screening, diagnostic testing and therapeutic care.
