DECA members at Whitewater High honed their leadership abilities at the 2010 Fall Leadership Conference where they earned 13 awards.
A total of 22 students, including eight officers, attended the conference at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta October 7-8 where they learned leadership skills through various workshops and keynote speakers.

All eight of the chapter’s officers were awarded the DECA Certified Leadership Award for completing a local training program including Program of Work, Fiscal Year Budget, and Calendar of Events.

Additionally, five of the officers received the Statesman Award for mastery of DECA information. Students must take a comprehensive written exam of 24 questions and are allowed only one chance to score at least 80 percent to earn their Statesman Award.

The students who earned the award are Drew Huelfer, Danielle Jordan, Emily Layland, Yanna Banks, and Lia Poulson. Not only did these students pass the exam, they did so with flying colors, placing in the top 10 percent. They received a Statesman Award lapel pin and certificate during the closing general session of the conference.

DECA is an association for marketing education students. Its activities are designed to reinforce the competencies taught in marketing and management classes.
