Lucile Sullivan Stapleton passed away in Fayetteville, GA on June 24, 2010 at the age of 90.

She was born October 15, 1919 in Castleberry, AL and was a long-time resident of Mobile, AL. In 1997, she moved to Fayetteville, GA. Mrs. Stapleton was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert P. Stapleton and her son Robert E. Stapleton.

Visitation will be at Mowell and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, June 26, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in Fayetteville, GA. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Mowell and Sons with Glenn Stringham officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at Buffington Cemetery in Castleberry, AL on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 1:00 PM (CST).

Mrs. Stapleton was a member of the Dauphin Way Baptist Church, where she worked with children, Westlawn Baptist Church, and later Sage Avenue Baptist Church in Mobile, AL. She served as a secretary for the PTA, led Brownie troops and Cub Scout packs. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, according to her family.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Michael Perry, Fayetteville, GA and Virginia and Mike Merchant of Willis Point, TX. Also surviving her is her daughter-in-law, Flo B. Stapleton, Carrollton, GA.

Additional survivors are brothers, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Hubert T. and Rebecca Sullivan of Opp, AL and Cecil D. and Mary Ann Sullivan of Bowden, GA. Grandchildren are Derek Merchant, Crossroads, TX, Andrea Merchant Haywood, Griffin, GA and Matt Perry, Livermore, CA . Great-grandchildren are Acelin and Morgen Merchant, Crossroads, TX and Adrianne, Alana, and AJ Haywood, Griffin, GA, Lamar and Lee Stapleton, Daphne, AL, Elizabeth Stapleton Hill, Mobile, AL and many nieces and nephews.

Shortly after Mrs. Stapleton moved to Fayetteville , she became one of the initial residents of Azalea Estates Assisted Living and Retirement Community. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving kindness and special environment created by the staff of Azalea Estates. Because of them, her last years were special.
