A man who barricaded himself in a bedroom after assaulting his girlfriend early this morning has surrendered himself to police officers, Peachtree City police said.

Michael O’Hare, 28, agreed to surrender after a negotiator was able to contact him via telephone, police said. He was arrested at 11:29 a.m. after he exited the front door of the home, police said. No force was necessary as O’Hare was taken safely into custody, police said.

O’Hare, barricaded himself inside a room in the upstairs area of 100 Ardenlee following a 4:46 a.m. emergency call from his girlfriend, who was unharmed, police said.

The girlfriend, who was able to get away, told police that the incident began as a verbal altercation but escalated as O’Hare threw her to the floor and threatened her, police said. O’Hare told the woman that he had a gun, so police are operating on the theory that he is likely armed, officials said.

The home at 100 Ardenlee was surrounded as a precaution to protect neighbors in the area, Peachtree City Police Capt. Rosanna Dove said. The home is also near the St. Paul Christian School.

O’Hare is being charged with simple battery and simple assault, both misdemeanors.
