Georgia Federal Credit Union (GFCU) is proud to announce the winners for their 2010 scholarship program. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to eleven students through the GFCU Vernon E. Carne Scholarship Fund, created in honor of the Credit Union’s founder.

This is the 16th year GFCU has given the Vernon E. Carne Scholarship awards. Selection was based on academic accomplishments, leadership and participation in both school and community activities and an essay on how the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ helps communities. This year’s essay competition drew entries from 43 different high schools and the top winner was Shelly Anne Evans of Fayetteville, who received $3,000.

Evans attends Starr’s Mill High School and plans to attend Georgia Tech and major in Management. She has a GPA of 4.0 and is a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Beta Club, and the Thespian Society. Shelly Anne is the daughter of Craig and SuAnne Evans of Fayetteville.
