Scott Carroll, a McIntosh graduate in 2001 and former Peachtree City resident, recently opened Applause Music Productions in Norcross with Adrian Lawrence, his bandmate from the group Asher & Quick. Carroll describes Applause Music Productions as kind of a one stop shop for all of a band’s needs.

“Bands can come in here, focus on the recording, and we can help them with the marketing and packaging, everything from t-shirts and CD printing to flyers,” said Carroll. He has a degree in audio engineering and Lawrence got his Master’s degree from Georgia Tech and is the graphics and merchandise genius. Carroll and Lawrence always recorded their own stuff and accumulated a lot of top of the line equipment over the years. They found a good location and set up a place where musicians can feel relaxed and work with professionals and top of the line equipment at incredible rates.

Carroll worked in both Nashville and Los Angeles on the recording side of things, learning from some big names in the industry and working with artists like Keith Urban, Blondie and Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine. He always wanted his own studio and Applause Music Productions opened its doors six months ago. They have worked with a number of local artists, including The Best Brothers Band from Fayette County and hip-hop artist Straight Kountry.

In high school, Carroll belonged to a band called Fuze, and while he admits they were young and dumb, it is that experience that is helping young artists get comfortable recording in a real studio now.

“We’re good guys, grew up in Christian backgrounds and are not scary,” said Carroll, explaining that some studios may be intimidating, expensive or looking to take advantage of inexperienced artists.

“There’s not a lot of overhead right now and we go the extra mile to make it good for everybody,” Carroll said. Currently, the studio charges $35 an hour and doesn’t charge for editing. “We master it as well. We just want people to come in and have a good time.”

Although Asher & Quick is still together and performing (recently playing the Masquerade), Carroll said he is focusing on the studio more than music right now.

“Our goal is to have a consistent flow of musicians, get our name out there and to keep putting everything back into the studio,” Carroll said. By being patient with new artists and having played in bands and recorded, the guys at Applause Music Productions are well on their way.
