The Sandy Creek High School Patriots traveled to Thomasville last Friday for a state quarterfinal football game with the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets and brought a large and vocal crowd with them.
Those who made the trip witnessed history as Sandy Creek advanced to the Class AAAA state semifinals with a 31-17 win but fans that couldn’t make the game followed it either on the web (www.thecitizen.com, www.thecitizensports.com, twitter.com/citizensport) or by radio listening to 92.5 FM The Bear, either on the radio or the web.
This reporter got word that someone out in Las Vegas was following the “tweets” as Sandy Creek shocked football prognosticators all over the state.
This week, they’ll have to do it all over again. Sandy Creek will play at Memorial Stadium, home of the Griffin Bears, the top ranked team in Class AAAA, at 7:30 p.m. at The Battlefield. The winner of this game will meet the winner of Rockdale County and Clarke Central at 8 p.m. in the Georgia Dome on Friday, Dec. 11.
