Fayette wins Academic Bowl

Fayette County’s high and middle school academic bowl teams dominated this year’s regional Academic Bowl competition sponsored by Griffin RESA (Regional Education Service Agency).

Teams representing each high school cinched all placements at the varsity and junior varsity levels. The varsity winners are Starr’s Mill High, first place; Whitewater High, second place; McIntosh High, third place; and Fayette County High, fourth place. Junior varsity winners are Fayette County High, first place; Starr’s Mill High, second place; Sandy Creek High, third place; and Whitewater High, fourth place.

All of the winning high school varsity and junior varsity teams will represent the Griffin RESA region at the state meet Feb. 6 in Flowery Branch.

Fayette’s middle school teams swept all but one placement in their competition. Bennett’s Mill Middle took first place, followed by Rising Starr Middle in second place, and J.C. Booth Middle securing fourth place.

The Griffin RESA Academic Bowl is a regional competition among high and middle school students from school systems in Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties.
