The people of Newnan and Coweta County “are life-savers,” according to officials with the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society.

Under the pressure of an approaching deadline for a euthanasia list, the organization issued a desperate plea to the community to help save the most at-risk cats and dogs housed at Coweta County Animal Control. The public responded.

“We can’t thank the people of Newnan and Coweta enough,” says Linda Earhart, NCHS President. “Even with the (July 4) holiday, people really responded to the needs of these animals.”

Nevertheless, overcrowding is still a problem, including a large influx of kittens. Another euthanasia list has been issued, this one with a deadline date of July 15.

The Newnan-Coweta Humane Society is again asking the community for help. To further encourage adoptions, Coweta County Animal Control announced reduced adoption fees for kittens to $25 for July 8-July 22. Adoption fees for cats and kittens typically range from $45 to $70.

Adoptable dogs are also available. Fees vary from $55 to $120. Ask about discounts for Coweta County employees, seniors, and military.

Adopted animals are fully vetted. Fees includes spay/neuter, vet exam, vaccines, microchip, and heartworm check for dogs and deworming. Adoption fees may be paid by cash, credit card, or debit card. Checks are not accepted. Renters who are considering adopting should bring a letter from their landlord stating they are allowed to have pets.

Folks looking for their new furry family member can visit Coweta County Animal Control at 91 Selt Road (off Hospital Road) in Newnan. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Call 770-254-3735 for more information.

“If you don’t find a kitten on the adoption floor, you can look in the book up front for those that are in the back,” Earhart explains. “If they have been vetted, Animal Control staff will bring them up to the bonding room for you to see.”

Potential adopters of cats or dogs should visit www.PetHarbor.com and write down the identification numbers of the animals they would like to see.
