Students from throughout Fayette County will be joining thousands of other youth on athletic fields all across the nation today to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the ninth annual national Fields of Faith event. The Fayette event will be at McIntosh High School. This will be the fifth Fields of Faith event for Fayette County. Last year, approximately 250 students and supporters attended at McIntosh High School Gymnasium. More information about Fields of Faith is available at FieldsofFaith.com. Fayette Senior Services will present “Switching Gears to Winter” today from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville. After a hot, humid summer there are many things you may want to consider to prepare your home for the cold winter quickly approaching. It is important to review the condition of your home each year for a number of things that may need attention before a small problem becomes a larger and more expensive one. Mr. Fix It Lamar Feagans will help us make informed decisions on how to look for and handle these potential problems. Bring any questions you have for discussion. The Holliday Dorsey Fife Museum is hosting its eighth annual Cemetery Spirit Walk Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17, 6:30-8:30 p.m. This year the Spirit Walk is honoring Fayette County veterans from the Creek Indian Wars to the Persian Gulf War. Tickets can be purchased at the Museum Oct. 12-17 during operating hours and also at the event. All ticket holders will be given a half-hour time slot and taken in groups of 10 to 15 people. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 5-12 years old. There is no charge for children under 5. The proceeds will go toward purchasing a new climate control system for the Museum. On both nights visitors can meet real live ghost hunters from the Casework: Paranormal Group as they share their results from studying the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum. While in line, visitors can enjoy the hauntingly historic southern music performed by local members of the SCV. Free refreshments of hot cocoa and treats will be provided Friday night by Rolling Hills Baptist Church and Saturday night by Southern Harm Derby Dames. Also, during the month of October the Museum is featuring a special exhibit of Victorian Mourning Rites. Mourning jewelry, gowns and letters from the 1800s will be on display. The Holliday Dorsey Fife Museum is located off the Fayetteville square at 140 West Lanier Avenue. Its normal operating hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with extended Friday hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phone 770-716-5332 with any questions.

The McIntosh High School Fall Festival is today from 1-6 p.m.. The event is at McIntosh High School and the cost is $7.

The Senoia Optimist Club, “Friend of Youth”, will host its fall barbecue on Saturday today at the Masonic Lodge in downtown Senoia. The lodge is located at 19 Main Street – between Hollberg’s Furniture and Senoia Coffee & Cafe. The barbecue will start at 11 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. or until the club sells out – whichever comes first. Pre-sale orders can be made with any member of the Senoia Optimist Club – especially for those customers who will be unable to make it to the barbecue on October 17. Prices remain as follows: gallon of stew = $25, Quart of Stew = $8; pound of BBQ pork = $9.00; and a plate with beverage = $8. Mr. Thompson’s affiliations include “Papa’s Smokehouse” restaurant and SonRise Baptist Church barbecues in Newnan.Funds from the barbecue will be used by the Senoia club to help with its many service projects that reach out to the local youth and to the community. Included among the club’s activities are scholarships at both East Coweta High School and Northgate High School, Youth Fingerprinting, Respect for Law, Youth Appreciation, the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch, the Senoia Area Blood Drives, the Optimist Oratorical contest, and the Optimist Essay contest.

Fayette County Parks & Recreation Department’s 15th annual Community Yard Sale is today from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Activities House, 980 Redwine Road in Fayetteville.The sale is held twice a year (spring and fall) and there should be plenty of vendors to choose from. All of the booths typically sell out well in advance as it is considered a great opportunity for group fundraising. Past sales have attracted hundreds of shoppers from as far as Macon and Marietta.

The Centre for Performing & Visual Arts, 1523 Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan, hosts The Broadway Boys today at 3 p.m. Billed as one of the hottest male vocal groups on the New York stage today, they will be performing hits from many Broadway shows. Larry Dell, former Fayetteville City Councilman and crew chief on a UH 1 Huiy Helicopter will speak to the Fayette County Historical Society at 3 p.m. on how the city operates and the War Memorial recently placed in Fayette County Veterans Memorial at Patriot Park. The society is located at 195 Lee Street, Fayetteville. You do not have to be a member to attend.

A breast cancer support group meets today from 5:30-7 p.m. at Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, 1267 Building (West Entrance), Third Floor, 1267 Highway 54 West in Fayetteville.The group is open to women of all ages who are currently fighting or have survived breast cancer. A free lecture is today at The Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City. The lecture is sponsored by the Fayette Master Gardener Association and features Jason Powell who owns Petals from the Past Nursery. The event begins at 10:15 a.m.

The October meeting of the South Metro GeorgiaCarry.Org chapter is today from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Fayette Event Center, located at 174 North Glynn St, in Fayetteville.
From 6-7 p.m., the group is planning a Mexican Fiesta party/social hour! The menu for the meeting is chicken and beef fajitas with all the fixings, chips and salsa, along with desert. The Fayette County High School Distinguished Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame will be holding induction ceremonies tonight and tomorrow. Friday night, the inductees will be introduced at half time of the Fayette County High versus Whitewater High football game at Tiger Stadium. Saturday night, the yearly banquet will be held in the Fayette County High School Cafeteria at 6pm. Tickets for the banquet can be purchased for $20 at the high school in the principal’s office or at Fayette Sporting Goods in the Fayette Place Shopping Center just south of Dairy Queen.

The South Metro Rose Society meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features SMRS Master Rosarian and Past President, Walt Reed, speaking on “Winterizing Your Roses.” His program will describe how you can put your roses to bed for the winter so that they will have the best chance of surviving the challenging conditions that we have experienced the last two years. Fayette Senior Services will present a Caregiver Resource Expo today from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville. Are you facing the challenges of caregiving that come with caring for a loved one? If so, you are not alone. Approximately 65 million people, 29 percent of the U.S. population, provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aging family member or friend. In efforts to provide meaningful information for caregivers, FSS will host organizations and services available in our community that can use used to support the caregiver. The community is invited to Oak Grove Elementary’s Oaktoberfest from 4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. with “Hotel Transylvania” on the big screen after the event. This spooktacular fundraiser will feature midway games, pie eating contests, face painting, spooky cake walk, Twisted Twister, Tug-o-War, corn hole tournament, haunted maze, hockey rink, fortune teller and more.
