Construction on the most recent additions at Pinewood Atlanta Studios is underway. Crews are at work on five new buildings totaling 176,000 sq. ft.

Land disturbance permit plans obtained from the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Department show five buildings totaling 176,000 sq. ft. to be constructed to the south of the existing soundstages and other buildings on the 288-acre Veterans Parkway property.

One of the buildings will house two 20,000 sq. ft. soundstages (stages 7 and 8) and 20,000 sq. ft. of office space.

A second building will house soundstage 6 at 30,000 sq. ft.

Soundstages 10 and 11 will also be constructed at 18,000 sq. ft. each.

The final building will be a 50,000 sq. ft. workshop building.

Tthe studio’s first production, “Ant-Man,” is due to be released in 2015.

Meanwhile, there has been a slight change at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, one which project manager Jim Pace said is the right thing to do. The former Rivers Elementary School, now known as the Pinewood Production Centre, is now under the ownership of Pinewood Atlanta Studios with former sole owner Rivers Rock II LLC retaining the majority interest.

Pinewood Atlanta Studios is a joint project of Rivers Rock and British-based Pinewood Shepperton PLC, with the global film studio as a 40 percent shareholder, according to the Pinewood Group website.

Pinewood Atlanta Studios already owned the 288-acre studio lot where Ant-Man, the first full-length feature film shot in Fayetteville, was recently produced.

Pinewood Atlanta also owned land surrounding the studio site with the exception of the Pinewood Production Centre. So having the former elementary school, owned until recently by Rivers Rock II, become part of Pinewood Atlanta Studios was the right move, said Pace.

“It was the right thing to do,” said Pace. “It’s already a team effort. And it’s the best approach to have a unified effort.”
