Fayette County’s new positive Covid case rate hovers around 1 out of every 10 persons tested in the latest report from the Georgia Department of Health.

The 2-week positive rate for Fayette dropped to 9.7% Feb. 5, DPR reported, compared to 13% for the same measurement at the state level. That 2-week rate is at 11.3% in neighboring Coweta County.

Fayette reported 45 new cases Friday, bringing the coounty pandemic total to 5,329 confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection.

As of Friday, the Fayette death toll remained at 106 fatalities, a death rate within Fayette of just under 2% of all cases reported. The state also reports a “probable” death toll of persons it suspects had Covid as a contributing factor in their deaths. If accurate, that would add 8 more fatalities to the Fayette toll.
