Reuben Hewell Brown, 80, of Fayetteville

Mr. Reuben Hewell Brown, 80, of Williamson Ga., formerly of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away on Sept. 13, 2011.

Mr. Brown proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on U.S. Haven, where he served as a medic. After 13 years, he retired from the Fayette County Board of Education. During that time, he oversaw the building of McIntosh High School, Booth Middle School and Sandy Creek High, as well as several others. 

He was a member of the “Cloud Dancers Radio Controlled AC Club”.  He was a loving husband and the best “Poppy” there has ever been. He was a true family man. 

Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his sister Reba Pusch. He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Carol Dooley-Brown; son Chip Brown of Greer, S.C.; daughter Reuanne Annis and her husband Brad of Fayetteville, Ga.; step-son Scott Dooley and his wife Terry of Brooks, Ga.; step-daughters Shawn Tolbert and her husband Nick of McDonough, Ga. and Stephanie Lally and her husband Rob of Fayetteville, Ga.; brothers Eddie Brown and Dan Brown; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service was held on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, Ga. with Dr. Bob Martin officiating. 

The burial followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City, Ga.  The family received friends on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
