Instead conduct your business with city and town officials remotely, via phone, email or via websites —
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, two Fayette County municipalities are asking their residents to stay away from the government centers and instead to conduct their business with the local governments remotely via telephone and email.
“We will continue to conduct business as usual, but we are asking that our residents contact us via phone, email, or our website to keep any exposure to a minimum,” said Peachtree City Manager Jon Rorie Thursday afternoon.
“For now, it is business as usual but we do ask that efforts are made to do business with us via phone, email, or our website in order to keep the possibility of any exposure to a minimum,” said Tyrone Town Manager Brandon Perkins, also Thursday afternoon.
Both managers said they may ratchet up their responses “as the pandemic evolves.”
“Out of an overabundance of caution, we will modify our operations as directed to mitigate the spread of the virus, which could mean office closures and performing only the required tasks to remain operational. Our Public Safety departments will continue to provide services,” Rorie said of Peachtree City.
Tyrone Manager Perkins said nearly the same thing. “We are prepared to implement our Pandemic Response Plan, if necessary, as a measure to mitigate the spread of the virus among our employees and citizens. This plan calls for significant modifications to our operation and would result in employees teleworking from home. Obviously, our police officers would continue to report for their shifts and provide their services 24/7. For the rest of our departments, this means office closures and keeping only the most critical tasks operational. IF it comes to this, you will be able to reach us by phone or email as normal, but some services may not be available.”

COVID-19: a Message from the City Manager
Citizens, the City of Peachtree City is closely monitoring the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) and is in contact with officials at Fayette County and the Georgia Department of Public Health, who will provide the guidance needed as this pandemic evolves.
Out of an overabundance of caution, we will modify our operations as directed to mitigate the spread of the virus, which could mean office closures and performing only the required tasks to remain operational. Our Public Safety departments will continue to provide services.
We will continue to conduct business as usual, but we are asking that our residents contact us via phone, e-mail, or our website to keep any exposure to a minimum. Contact information for staff is available on the website, www.peachtree-city.org, then navigate under the “Government” tab to desired department where e-mail addresses for key personnel in each department are listed.
While there is only one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Fayette County, the virus does spread quickly. To help mitigate the spread of the virus, we encourage everyone to follow the guidelines established by the Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control.
For more information, go the homepage at www.peachtree-city.org, and click as directed on the COVID-19 banner at the top of the page to get to the Fayette County webpage that contains relevant information and links on the coronavirus and the precautions that should be taken.
Sincerely,
Jon Rorie, City Manager
Peachtree City
And from the town of Tyrone’s Town Manager Perkins:
Citizens, As you know, the coronavirus is spreading quickly across the globe and causing a lot of concern. While most who are infected will experience mild symptoms — based on what we are learning from experiences where the virus has taken hold — it does present serious consequences for some groups with underlying health conditions.
Consequently, we are closely monitoring this situation and we are in contact with the State DPH and other officials who can provide expert guidance as this matter evolves. We are prepared to implement our Pandemic Response Plan, if necessary, as a measure to mitigate the spread of the virus among our employees and citizens. This plan calls for significant modifications to our operation and would result in employees teleworking from home. Obviously, our police officers would continue to report for their shifts and provide their services 24/7. For the rest of our departments, this means office closures and keeping only the most critical tasks operational.
IF it comes to this, you will be able to reach us by phone or email as normal, but some services may not be available.
For now, it is business as usual but we do ask that efforts are made to do business with us via phone, email, or our website in order to keep the possibility of any exposure to a minimum. Contact information for key staff members is available online at http://tyrone.org/contact/. You will find a wealth of information about our services on our website and many functions can be taken care of online or over the phone.
There are currently no known cases of coronavirus or Covid-19 in Tyrone, but we know that there are confirmed cases nearby and that community spread is possible. Our goal is to mitigate this as much as possible. That said, we also encourage citizens to follow CDC guidelines on this, which include maintaining good personal hygiene, staying away from people who are sick, staying home if you are sick, and staying away from large gatherings.
All of this preparation is being conducted out of an abundance of caution and we, of course, are confident that the public health professionals working on this will get a handle on it and contain it. We encourage you to remain calm, continue to educate yourselves on this matter, and be patient if normal routines become interrupted.
We will keep you informed about any changes via this newsletter and social media. Activation of our Pandemic Response Plan will also be communicated to media outlets.
