After a 1-1 tie lasted through two overtimes, it was a penalty kick save by Kaitlin Deitrick that sealed a 7-6 championship win Friday night over local rival Whitewater.

Both teams left it all on the field and then some. Even after falling behind one goal in the penalty kick phase, Whitewater rallied to tie it up again before the Lady Chiefs pulled away for good.

This is the seventh state title for the Mcintosh girls team and the third for Head Coach Marcia Clark.

She said Whitewater was a formidable opponent, and she was proud her team never gave up.

In regulation the Lady Chiefs got on the board with a goal from Laura Higgason with 7:55 left in the first half.

Less than four minutes later, Whitewater knotted it back up with a goal from Jenni Loveless. From then on, it was a hard-fought game on both sides, with a host of stunning defensive plays.
