The 2011 Art & Music Showcase sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City was held at the Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City on March 21.
Local youth from grades 1st through 12th competed in art and music. The competition is arranged in grade groups 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The art competition had 142 entrants. The music competition had 47 performers audition, of which 21 made it to the finals. Winners are chosen from each group by a panel of judges. The high school winner from the music competition advances on to compete in the District competition held later this month.
This year’s first place winner in the 10-12 grade division was Daniel Harbin who played the guitar. Harbin is a home school high school senior.
Art winners grades 6-12 will also compete in the District competition in April and they are; Kathryn Moore, 12th grade, McIntosh HS; Torrie Richardson, 11th grade, McIntosh HS; Dmitri Porzio, 10th grade, Stars Mill HS; Amber Ugbo, 9th grade, Sandy Creek HS; Kyia Ward, 8th grade, Fayette MS; and Lydia Fields, 6th grade, Bennett’s Mill Elementary.
“This was the 26th annual event and once again was a great success,” Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City President, Mary Ann Beckham said, “Our club takes great pride in being able to provide this opportunity for our local youth to showcase their tremendous talents in art and music. We thank the participants, the parents and the corporate sponsors who all make this event possible.”
The Kiwanis Club motto is “Serving the Children of the World.”
