The Peachtree City Running Club is gearing up for its annual Summer Track Classic Series, which starts June 6.
Meets will take place every Wednesday evening through June and the first two weeks of July at Riley Field, adjacent to Peachtree City Elementary School on Wisdom Road. Admission is free to runners and spectators alike.
“The objective is to have a good time with your family and friends while getting in some exercise or encouraging others at a low-key, free event,” according to a spokesperson.
Registration starts at 6 p.m. each night and the first event is at 6:30. One of the most popular events is the Parent-Child Relay and another is the kid’s 50-meter dash where each participant receives a Fruitsicle at the finish line.
Other events include the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 1-mile run, 3,200-meter run, 5K run, 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay. Events are run in heats based on the number of runners entered. There are no field events.
The series will culminate with a championship meet July 11-12 with medals to the top three in all heats and all age groups. That event is also free and open to the public.
Volunteers are needed and appreciated. For additional information, contact Mark Hamilton at 404-345-9708 or Rachel Johnson at 630-417-9639.
