Miss Margaret “Meg” Anne Hendricks, 84, passed away at Ashley Glenn Assisted Living in Peachtree City, Ga. on January 5, 2018.

Meg Hendricks was born on December 12, 1933 to Dr. Herman Hendricks and Mrs. Helen Combs Hedger Hendricks in Nashville, Tenn.  Growing up in Knoxville, Tenn. and Richmond, Ky., she was valedictorian of her class in 1951.  That summer, she moved with her younger brother to Vienna, Austria, where her father was a diplomat under the Marshall Plan. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Vienna, her second undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee, and earned her graduate degree from the Divinity School at Yale University.  She worked as a therapist, social worker, and seminarian in New York City, where she resided for many decades.

In 2001, Meg Hendricks was one of the mental health practitioners and clergy near Ground Zero, providing counseling to rescue parties searching for survivors.  This experience led her into PTSD and later, mental health issues that plagued her for the rest of her life. She later developed dementia. *-Upon relocating to Georgia, Meg went to live at Ashley Glenn. Meg’s family would like to thank Ashley Glenn of Peachtree City, Ga. for their care of Meg Hendricks.

Living relatives include her younger brother, Dr. and Mrs. John T. Hendricks of Griffin, Ga.; nephew, Robert E. Hendricks of Griffin, Ga.; Mrs. Anne Hendricks Childress and Mr. David Childress, of Bloomingdale, Ga.; her great nephew, Mr. Ian Browning, of Barnesville, Ga.; and her remaining cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Commie Jo Hall, of Franklin, Ky. and Mrs. Hazel Hendricks of Franklin, Ky.

She is preceded in death by both her parents, her stepmother, Gladys Hendricks of Mosheim, Tenn., her sister, the late Erma Louise Hendricks; and her niece, Lorelei Elisabeth Hendricks.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Westminster Cemetery in Peachtree City with Pastor Pete Schneider performing the service. Please arrive at the cemetery by 2:30 p.m. May the Lord bless Miss Margaret Anne Hendricks for her service to her country at our darkest hours and days after September 11, 2001.
