Re: “Honoring Bill Of Rights Day,” by Dr. Mark W. Hendrickson’s article in the Dec. 15 issue of The Citizen.
Dr. Hendrickson writes: “We poorly understand the elementary concept of rights … The Declaration Of Independence specifies two essential points we need to understand about our rights: 1) They are God-given; 2) they are inalienable … nobody has a right to anyone else’s property.”
Here we go again, assuming God has always been on our side. Neither God nor Jesus is mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. Nor are they mentioned in the Bill of Rights.
I have written in past months about the plight of the Native Americans, as related to God, and whether or not God endorsed such action. I am certain that no one would state or feel that God had anything to do with those misdeeds. Which would mean that, evidently, God did not arrive with Columbus, nor was he a passenger on the Mayflower.
The Internet is very educational in all aspects of what I have written, now and twice within the past few months, about the plight of the Native Americans. But no one seems to care; most seem to believe that God is always on our side, and his name can be injected whenever and wherever one pleases, to fit a particular situation.
