The Sandy Creek Patriots are 29-1 since the start of the 2009 season. They have won 29 games in a row and pulled in state titles in both Class AAAA (2009) and Class AAA. The Patriots did it this year with a tremendous effort on defense.

Coaches for Sandy Creek reminded their players at half-time that if Carrollton didn’t score in the second half, the Patriots would win the game. The Trojans got close, incredibly close, but the Sandy Creek defense came up with big stops and turnovers and left the Georgia Dome with another state championship trophy.

The day before, Starr’s Mill played in the Class AAAA state championship game, facing a tough team from Chattahoochee and losing 24-0.

A special commemorative section is in the Dec. 15 print edition of The Citizen.
