James Franklin “Jimmy” Howell, Jr., 87, Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017.
Jimmy worked for Southern Railways and Norfolk Southern as an engineer for 38 years. He was hired on at Southern Railways on January 7, 1948. Jimmy loved singing for the Lord. He loved his church, Southside Baptist Church, where he had the opportunity to sing. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell, and daughter, Cheryl Howell.
He is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Alan) Thaggard, Debbie (Bob) Graham, and Lisa Nelson (David Johnson); brothers, Richard A. Howell and Harold David Howell; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Friday, April 7, 2017, 11 a.m., at Southside Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Jimmy will lie in state beginning at 10 a.m. Burial followed at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
