Busy week, busy month! October is chock full of activities in Peachtree City, beginning with this weekend’s Great Georgia Air Show. The Mayor & Council will also meet twice this week, and several traffic advisories will impact Fayette drivers over the coming days.

Council Workshop on 2011 Survey & Retreat – Tuesday, October 5
The Mayor and City Council will hold a workshop on Tuesday, October 5, 6:30 p.m., at City Hall to discuss the 2011 Citizen Survey and topics for the spring City Council Retreat. The public is welcome.

October 7 Council Meeting – Cell Towers, Land Use & Zoning Maps – Thursday, October 7
On October 7, the Mayor and Council will consider a new Cell Phone Tower Ordinance and will consider adopting new Land Use and Zoning Maps for the City. The agenda also includes a request to amend the LUC-20 zoning for Somerby to reallocate the types of units for seniors to be developed — no increase is planned for the number of units. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, and the public is welcome. Residents can also watch the meeting live or on-demand at www.peachtree-city.org/video. Traffic Advisories:
– October 4 – 8 – Sandy Creek Rd / Piedmont Fayette Hospital area – This week, Sandy Creek Road will be closed to through traffic between Hood Road and Piedmont Fayette Hospital. The temporary detour to the hospital for vehicles traveling southeast on Sandy Creek Road will be via Flat Creek Trail to Tyrone Road to Highway 54. The Hospital’s entrances on Sandy Creek Road will remain open. For additional information, please contact Fayette County Public Works at 770-320-6010.
– October 9 & 10 – Great Georgia Air Show. Expect delays on Highway 74 South and Divident Drive. During the event, Dividend Drive will accessible to both northbound and southbound traffic for use while entering and exiting the show; however, there will be a designated golf cart and motorcycle travel lane located on the northbound lanes. Additionally, there will be a marked travel lane for the buses transporting event goers to and from the satellite parking lots located at Cooper Lighting and the Starr’s Mill School Complex.
– October 16 – PTC Classic Road Race. McIntosh Trail by Huddleston closed 6:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., rolling road and lane closures along Peachtree Parkway South, McIntosh Trail, Robinson Rd., Log House Road, and Braelinn Road during the races. Halloween Safety Reminders for Children & Adults
Halloween is Sunday, October 31, and the Peachtree City Police Department has developed a list of safety tips for trick-or-treaters, those providing treats, and adults celebrating Halloween. Check out the full list at www.peachtree-city.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=517 .

Rotary Phone Books coming this weekend!
The Rotary Club of Peachtree City will be delivering the 37th edition of the Rotary Telephone Book in Peachtree City on Saturday & Sunday, October 9 & 10 (unless rain is forecast). Peachtree City residents can recycle their old phone books at both the Peachtree City Recycling Center on Rockaway Road and the Recycling Station on McIntosh Trail at Public Works. All Peachtree City residential curbside garbage companies are also accepting the books in their recycling bins. If you are a Peachtree City resident with curbside garbage collection, curbside recycling is available at no additional charge. Don’t Forget . . .

Kedron Pools Closed October 4 – 17 – The swimming pools at Kedron Fieldhouse & Aquatic Center will be closed from October 4 – 17 for general maintenance and to put up the bubble. The Fieldhouse will remain open during this time, and the pools will reopen for normal hours on October 18.

Pumpkin Sale Underway – Now through October 31. The Peachtree City Fire Department’s annual Pumpkin Sale goes through October 31, at Leach Station 81 (on Paschall Road at Highway 74 South) and at Weber Station 83 (Peachtree Parkway south of Crosstown). Funds raised help to purchase equipment for the department and Volunteer Firefighters’ Association. Pumpkin prices range from $5 for small to $11 for extra-large pumpkins. Pie pumpkins are $2, minis and gourds are 50 cents, and Indian corn is $4 per bunch.

General Election – Voting now through November 2. Early Voting is underway 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, at the Fayette County Elections Office in Fayetteville. Advance voting will expand to the Peachtree City and Tyrone Libraries between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the week of October 25 – 29. No voting will occur on Monday, November 1, and residents vote at their regular polling place on Tuesday, November 2. Visit www.sos.ga.gov/mvp/ for sample ballots and to locate your polling place.

Music in the Park at The Avenue: Last 5 Standing – Friday, October 8. Enjoy complimentary entertainment and giveaways beginning at 6:00 p.m. Live music begins at 7:00 p.m. with popular hits from the 70s, 80s and today from Last 5 Standing. Please bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the show.

The Great Georgia Air Show – Saturday & Sunday, October 9 – 10, at Atlanta Regional Airport – Falcon Field in Peachtree City. The 13th annual event includes Team Chaos Extreme Air Show Act, the FlashFire Jet Truck, Gary Ward and the MX2, Battle of Midway, Gene Soucy Airshows, BearFeat Acrobatics, Dixie Wing Warbirds, and “Magic in the Air” by Red Eagle Air Sports.
