Seminar to address social issues

Current events and issues impacting the nation, state and local community will be addressed at a Community Awareness Seminar scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 7, 7-8:30 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School.

Topics will include law enforcement issues with citizens, and using deadly force; race relations in Fayette County, the school system, and society; political climate in Fayette County following the presidential election; the nation’s election process; and getting along with others who have opposing views.

A panel of law enforcement, school and community leaders will be on hand to answer questions on the topics mentioned above. Panel members include Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb, District Attorney Ben Coker, Fayette County Schools Superintendent Dr. Joseph Barrow, Tyrone Mayor Eric Dial, Sandy Creek High Principal Robert Hunter, and Fayette County Commissioner Charles Rousseau.

The seminar is free and open to the public. Students in grades 8-12 and their parents are highly encouraged to attend.

The Fayette County School System and Fayette County NAACP are co-sponsoring the seminar.
