The Senoia Rotary Club will meet Monday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. Senoia Coffee and Café, 1 Main Street in Senoia, to hear Deacon Steve Swope speak about the refugee crisis In Europe.
Deacon Swope was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate of the Roman Catholic Church Feb. 8, 2008, and serves at St. George Catholic Church in Newnan. He currently serves the Archdiocese as the chair of the Diaconate Scrutinies and Evaluation Committee, a member of the Deacon Personnel Board, and the lead Master of Ceremonies at the Archdiocese of Atlanta Eucharistic Congress.
He formerly served the Archdiocese of Atlanta as the Associate Director of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate and the CEO of GWTW Partners which has oversight of the use and intellectual property protection of Margaret Mitchell’s award winning novel, Gone With the Wind.
Before joining the Archdiocese of Atlanta, Swope’s business career was in the travel industry. He was one of the founders of The Rubicon Group, a company that provided critical business intelligence and pricing guidance to the travel and hospitality industries. He served as the president and CEO of Rubicon from its inception until the sale of the company in early 2011.
Swope currently is a Catholic Relief Services Global Fellow Educator and a member of the National Association of Diaconate Directors. He also serves as the chairman of the Newnan~Coweta County Airport Authority, a member of the Board of Directors for the Coweta County Centre for the Arts and a member of the Rotary Club of Newnan.
He and his wife Marie live on a small farm just outside of Newnan, where they raise chickens, grow vegetables and find time to relax. They have two adult children. Their daughter Jennifer and her husband Toby reside in Washington, DC with their children Eleanor and Henry. Their son Matthew resides in Atlanta and is the Assistant Solicitor General of Coweta County.
