A Peachtree City man was arrested May 9 on multiple charges including burglary and the theft of two golf carts and an automobile.

Kenneth B. Owens, Jr., 30, of Ridgelake Drive, was charged with burglary, financial identity fraud, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, controlled substances violation and three counts of theft by taking, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Peachtree City Police Department investigator Ryan MacCallan said officers arrived at the Ridgelake condominiums off Flat Creek Road after a report of a stolen golf cart. Witnesses told officers a man had been seen driving two different golf carts in close time proximity, MacCallan said.

One of the carts was found disabled and abandoned while the other cart was found outside Owens’ residence, said MacCallan.

A resident at Ridgelake who had been out of state for approximately one week and returned May 8 reported that one of his credit cards had been used. The man told officers he had given Owens permission to access his residence but only to use the Internet, MacCallan said.

Officers found Owens in the victim’s home, MacCallan said, adding that investigators determined that Owens had been staying in the man’s home and had used one of his credit cards several times to purchase items. The victim’s car had also been taken from the residence and was found in a retail area near Wisdom Road, MacCallan said. Owens had not been given permission to use the vehicle or to use the victim’s credit cards.

MacCallan said the theft by taking charges stemmed from the two stolen golf carts and the vehicle which Owens had not been given permission to use.

Officers upon locating Owens in the residence also found prescription medications and a small amount of suspected marijuana, said MacCallan.

MacCallan said Owens had previously worked as a golf cart mechanic but had not worked there for approximately two weeks.
