M. Lavon “Vonnie” Eldred (nee Sprague) died on April 26, 2016 in Fayetteville, Ga. after several months of declining health.

Vonnie was born on May 24, 1932 in Coldwater, Mich. to her parents, Marjorie and Max Sprague.  She married William Eldred on August 8, 1953. Vonnie graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in elementary education in 1954.  The Eldreds relocated to Elk Grove Village, Ill. where Vonnie taught kindergarten and first grade at Rupley Elementary. They retired in 1991 and followed family to settle in Fayetteville, Ga. where she spent her time doting on grandchildren and great-grandchildren, volunteering, bowling on a women’s league, and being a very active member of North Fayette United Methodist Church.  

Vonnie loved teaching and had a decades long career as an elementary school teacher, sharing her love of reading with countless children.  

She is preceded in death by son, Edward Eldred and siblings Jack Sprague and Alice Fredlund.

She is survived in death by her husband of 62 years, William; her daughters, Catherine McBride (Stephen), Penny Erbe (Donald) and son, Lawrence Eldred (Brenda); her grandchildren, Jed McBride (Erin), Lindsay Bragdon (Jeff), Rebecca and Thomas Erbe, and Griffin Eldred; great-grandchildren, Casey Bragdon and Zoe McBride; and a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
