NCHS hosts annual volunteer meeting

The Newnan-Coweta Humane Society will host its annual volunteer meeting Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Asa Powell Expo Center, 197 Temple Avenue in Newnan.

Current volunteers are asked to attend to renew their volunteer paperwork — a requirement of the Georgia State Department of Agriculture.  People with an interest in volunteering are also invited and welcome.

“NCHS is strictly volunteer-based,” said Linda Earhart, President of Newnan-Coweta Humane Society. “We have no paid staff members. We need folks to join us in our mission to help save homeless cats and dogs in Coweta County.”

NCHS will introduce newly elected board members. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about committees, meet the committee chairs, and find a team for which they are well suited.

It’s not uncommon for softhearted people to say they can’t handle working with animals. That’s understandable. However, NCHS can use volunteers in other areas, too. Not all tasks require direct contact with cats and dogs. Needs vary from clerical to grant-writing to picking up pet food donations to setting up for adoption events, even doing laundry.

The need is great, and the work is rewarding. Join NCHS Tuesday night and find your fit as a volunteer with the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society, the oldest humane society or animal welfare organization in Coweta County. Those who can’t attend Tuesday but are still interested in volunteering can fill out an application at www.NCHSRescue.org.

Newnan-Coweta Humane Society is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the number of pets euthanized at Coweta County Animal Control in Newnan through rescue, spay/neuter, foster programs, and community awareness.
