Jamie Hudson and Joey Hawthorne in Mike Fricke’s fifth-grade class at Sara Harp Minter Elementary School really took to heart a class assignment to try and “make the world a better place” with a think CERCA social change project.

The two boys, with encouragement and support from Fricke, as well as the school administration, organized a canned food drive for the school. They wrote a project proposal slide show, met with school administrators for approval, spoke on the school announcements, designed flyers, collected and counted donations and made the special delivery themselves.

The last day of school before the holiday break they were able to donate more than 1,500 cans and boxed food items to the Fayette Samaritans organization.
