Seay honored by GHRAC

Chancellor Henry M. Huckaby and Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council (GHRAC) Chair P. Toby Graham presented state Sen. Valencia Seay and state Sen. John Wilkinson with the GHRAC Award for Legislative Advocacy during the thirteenth annual GHRAC Archives Awards ceremony Oct. 28 at the Georgia Archives.  The GHRAC awards recognize outstanding efforts in archives and records work in Georgia.

Seay and Wilkinson “recognized the need for Georgians to better understand the importance and impact of agriculture on the development of our state,” according to a statement from the Board of Regents. The legislators led sponsorship of SB 274, bi-partisan legislation signed by Governor Deal in April 2014, which designates areas within the Georgia Capitol Museum for promoting and sharing historical content on Georgia agriculture. The General Assembly passed a related budgetary allocation in 2015.

GHRAC works to promote the educational use of Georgia’s documentary heritage and to support efforts to improve the condition of records statewide.  The Board is charged with advising the Governor, Secretary of State, and the Georgia Archives on records and policy issues.  For more information, visit www.GeorgiaArchives.org and click on Partners, then click on Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council (GHRAC).
